The MARCHING BAND season begins for most students in early August with Band Camp, including day-long rehearsals generally during the first week of August. For color guard and percussionists, particularly the drum line, there are practices and auditions in June, and a special color guard and percussion camp the week before Band Camp.

After Band Camp is complete, after school rehearsals begin - three days a week. Starting in September the group attends home football games, performing the national anthem before the game, their field show at halftime, and spirited music in the stands throughout the game. Then from late September through early November, the band participates in competitions most weekends. SPHS also hosts its own marching competition in September.

The marching band sometimes performs during the annual out-of-state spring trip. A number of our students expand their marching experience over the summer by participating in a drum corps, or one of many music camps.

🎉 Wednesday Night Mixer (8/6) & Friday Preview Performance (8/8)
  • Wednesday Night (8/6): Students are invited to stay late and enjoy a social evening with their fellow band members.
  • Friday Night (8/8): Families are welcome to attend a preview of what the students have been working on all week. After the performance, the BOB will provide pizza for everyone. This opportunity will allow us to have BOB General Meeting as well.

Spirit Bags

Each student is assigned a peer to give a Spirit Bag to during competition weeks. Names are typically handed out by Wednesday of that week by your students section leader.

A Spirit Bag usually includes a few small items like a snack, candy bar, drink, or a fun little toy. These are meant to be simple and encouraging — not expensive gift bags! Think of it as a thoughtful “to-go” bag, and you’re not expected to include every item from the list.

Thanks for helping keep the spirit high and the season fun!
