Students join the JAZZ BAND by audition in the early Fall, with all rehearsals after school. The group performs at the school's Winter Concert in December and the Spring Concert in May, as well as at various jazz clinics throughout the year. In some years they also participate in the annual instrumental music Spring Trip. Our jazz students have also played in the All-County Jazz Band.

Concert Attire

Jazz Band is slightly different from Symphonic Band and Orchestra in that there is no pre-defined shirt or pants students are required to wear. 

Instead the uniform is as follows for all performances:

• Black Dress Shirt
• Black Pants
• "Fun" Socks

Jazz Band Auditions

Auditions:

Jazz Band Auditions take place on the following dates:  9/24 (3:30 - 4:30) & 9/26 (3:30 - 5:30). Sign up for a time that best suits your schedule. Auditions sign ups are posted outside of Room 192.

Audition Music:

1. Higher Ground - Parts are provided - prepare as much as you can.

2. Scales: 

• Chromatic of your choice
• E flat Major (Concert Pitch)
• F Pentatonic and Blues (Concert Pitch)

3. Drumset - Grooves (Swing, Funk, Soca, Boss nova)
